Dr. Walter David Sikes, Jr., age 68, of Gainesville, Florida died on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at E.T. York Center for Caring in Gainesville with his wife by his side.
David was born in Jacksonville, Florida on July 1, 1950 to Ella Justina Young Sikes and the late Walter David Sikes, Sr. He grew up in Jacksonville and graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1968. Following his graduation, David continued his education at Florida State University, then Georgia State University, and finished at Parker Chiropractic College in Irving, TX. David relocated to Starke, Florida in 1988 and opened Bradford Chiropractic Center which is now Starke Family Medical Center. David was a practicing Chiropractic Physician and devoted his life to the care of others. David owned the Village Doctors of Keystone Heights at two locations and most recently the Village Doctors of Lake Butler. In 2011, David received the Small Business Person of the Year Award and in 2014 the Small Business Award from the North Florida Regional Chamber of Commerce. He was passionate about his career and loved his work family. He also dearly loved his wife, Janine Young Sikes. Together they enjoyed traveling, boating, and spending time with one another. David was a private pilot, flying for over 20 years. He was an avid reader who always enjoyed a good laugh.
David was preceded in death by his father, Walter David Sikes, Sr. and his brother-in-law, Richard Merritt.
David is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Janine Sikes of Gainesville, FL; his mother, Justina Young Sikes of Jacksonville, FL; his brother, Dan (Paulette) Sikes of Starke, FL; his sisters, Dayle (Howard) Triay and Dana Merritt (Bill Choisser) both of Jacksonville, FL; along with many nieces and nephews David loved dearly.
A Celebration of David's Life will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Archie Tanner Memorial Chapel with The Reverend Carrie English officiating. A Graveside Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Arlington Memorial Park at 11:00 am in Jacksonville, Florida and interment will follow.
